Branding for organisations who care

We often work with organisations that exist to support people – charities, community groups, mental health services, doing quiet, vital work every day.

It’s a privilege, and of course it comes with responsibility. Because when the work is about safety, wellbeing, or reaching someone in crisis, what you create really matters. A name, a message or a visual identity… these things aren’t just ‘branding.’ They can be the difference between someone scrolling past, or someone stopping, recognising themselves, and taking a first step towards help.

For purpose-led organisations, the goal isn’t to keep up with trends. It’s about trust. Being clear, human, and accessible, so the right people can find you, and feel able to reach out. And our work always starts in the same way: by listening.

Growing Well for example, supports mental health through nature-based programmes across Cumbria and North Lancashire. Their work is rooted in recovery, kindness and belonging, and their messaging and identity needed to feel the same – hopeful, open, and human.

With Connected Voice we worked alongside staff and audiences to shape a new name and identity built around inclusion, connection and community voice, grounded in conversation and shared thinking.

When Mental Health Concern became Everyturn Mental Health, it was a chance to create a unifying identity across many services, while keeping the warmth of the work intact. More than 300 people were involved in shaping the new brand, influenced by lived experience, not imposed from above. The result was honest and real, and we were proud it was recognised at the North East Marketing Awards.

Our work with Newcastle Women’s Aid is another reminder of what thoughtful design can do. Supporting women and girls experiencing domestic abuse requires care, sensitivity and clarity. The campaign we created together used the voices of real women to raise awareness of the many forms abuse can take, including those that are harder to name or recognise.

The impact was deeply moving: over 200 women came forward to seek support.

And that’s what this work is really about. Not design for design’s sake, but design that helps someone feel seen, safe, and able to ask for help.

Across all of these projects, the same thing comes up again and again: the strongest brands aren’t built by looking or sounding impressive. They’re built through attention, empathy, and collaboration.

Because branding for organisations that care isn’t about shouting louder. It’s about helping people feel welcome, understood, and supported, sometimes even before a single word is spoken.
