Celebrating 50 years of Milton Keynes

Having worked for months on the brand and creative campaign for Milton Keynes 50th celebrations, Feast of Fire, we were all watching from the wings as Storm Brian hit the UK.

Fortunately the people of Milton Keynes defied the storm and turned out in their thousands to celebrate MK50 at the magical and fiery event on Saturday 21 October, 10,000 people descended on Milton Keynes City Centre for a very special evening of fire, theatre, dance and music created by outdoor arts experts Walk the Plank and supported by Arts Council England.

As fireworks, pyrotechnics and paper streamers filled the night sky, the evening ended with a special firework spelling MILTON KEYNES 2023 to announce Milton Keynes’ bid to be European Capital of Culture 2023.

We worked with the team in the build-up to the event, developing everything from the typographic identity and outdoor promotional campaign through to onsite branding and wayfinding. An enigmatic typographic identity was created to give a sense of movement and energy, reflecting the vibrant programme for the event.

The event was commissioned as part of the MK50 celebrations and was produced by the IF: Milton Keynes International Festival. We are currently working with the festival team to create the campaign and communications for the 2018 IF Festival in July.
