Locomotion, National Railway Museum

A visitor destination campaign for a must-see attraction.

Locomotion is one of the five national museums in the Science Museum Group, located in Shildon, County Durham – the world’s first railway town! It’s a fantastic place where you can get up close to dozens of legendary locomotives, showcasing the best of railway history and engineering.

After undergoing a multimillion-pound transformation with the creation of New Hall, the expansion makes Locomotion home to the largest collection of heritage rail vehicles in Europe, ensuring that the North East’s rich rail heritage can be celebrated for years to come.

We were delighted to create a campaign to promote the New Hall opening and to spread the word that Locomotion is a must-visit destination. Our campaign focuses on the unique importance of this location. Shildon is where Locomotion No.1 began its historic journey in 1825, marking one of the most significant moments in railway history. Truly, ‘Railway History was made here.’

Our campaign highlights experiences and moments that are also ‘made here,’ both physically and emotionally, aiming to create a sense of pride and to motivate everyone to come and experience these wonders for themselves.

From concept and art direction to implementation and artwork, we worked closely with the wonderful team at Locomotion and the Science Museum Group to create a cross-channel campaign that you’ll see throughout the region.

New Hall opened at the end of May with special events for the community and VIPs, including special activities over the bank holiday weekend.

It was a fantastic project to be part of – after all, who doesn’t love trains?
