Globally renowned, Newcastle University Business School investigate emerging issues of the business world and wider society and help shape policies to solve the pressing issues of today and tomorrow; all through world-leading research.

Reach is the annual magazine showcasing their latest research and influencing and tackling issues around the future for business and society.

We were appointed by the school to refresh and redesign the magazine, with the content centred around ‘Real World Impact’, it needed to be powerful.

Establishing a robust editorial style was key. A structured grid and clear typographic principles give a multi-layered style to the magazine. Bold concepts for each article bring the content to life, from illustration to strong photography, the imagery varies to give pace and energy.

A colour code was introduced to help navigate the 3 distinct sections ‘Impacting Business’, ‘Impacting Policy’ and ‘Impacting Society’.

We worked closely with the communications team to define each article concept and a range of ideas were generated for each piece, the strongest for each was executed.

The cover illustration concept in particular had real impact, focusing on whistleblowing in a democratic society, we wanted to depict the ominous sense of danger and unrest that comes from whistleblowing.

The magazine was circulated in January 2020 and we cannot wait to work on the next issue, building on the style we have created.
