Our Freedom: Then and Now

A brand to commemorate 80 years of VE/VJ day and celebrate what freedom means today.

This was one of those projects that was a dream to work on. ‘Our Freedom: Then and Now’, is a unique programme of arts activity to mark the 80th anniversary of the second world war.

Led by Future Arts Centres working with 60 arts centres and libraries, this ambitious, year-long initiative brings together an exciting range of cultural events, exhibitions, and performances. The programme will explore and celebrate what ‘Our Freedom’ means today, commemorating 80 years since VE/VJ Day.

We were appointed to create a bold, memorable identity reflecting both the historical significance and contemporary relevance of this vibrant programme. The logo subtly incorporates the number 80 within the programme name, a thoughtful typographic detail striking a balance between remembrance and a contemporary, celebratory feel.

Our work extends across a broader visual language for social templates, event banners, print materials, and the initial website aesthetic. The programme launched at Contact Theatre, Manchester in June and has been rolling out across the UK throughout the year.
