At Altogether, we don’t just talk about creativity, we live it, champion it, and push for it to be a space where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. But creativity doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s shaped by the people who make it happen, and right now, the industry still isn’t as inclusive as it should be.
That’s why, on International Women’s Day, we’re not just reflecting – we’re accelerating action. Change in the creative industry won’t happen by itself, and it’s up to all of us to push for it. One of the ways we’re doing that is through Ladies, Wine & Design Newcastle, a group that Sarah co-leads with Danielle Brough, and Chloe, one of our creatives, is also involved in.
The creative industries are full of talent, yet women and non-binary people still hit barriers when it comes to moving up. Lack of visibility, pay gaps, workplace biases, imposter syndrome, motherhood – the list goes on. And when it comes to leadership roles? Still mostly taken up by men. Right now in the UK, only 16% of creative directors are women, only 23% of the creative industry identifies as Black, Asian, or ethnically diverse, and only 25% of senior positions in advertising are held by women.
This isn’t just a statistic, it’s a call to action. Because creativity thrives on diversity, and it’s time we all play a role in breaking down these barriers.
That’s where we come in. Ladies, Wine & Design is about actively reshaping the future.
